HOW TO USE INSTRUCTIONS
 

CFR 1910.147 When servicing and/or maintenance is performed by a crew, craft, department or other group, they shall utilize a procedure which affords the employees a level of protection equivalent to that provided by the implementation of a personal lockout or tagout device. This procedure follows OSHA 1910.147 standards. Stringent measures have been taken to ensure that all information contained in the procedure is accurate and reliable. It is up to user to ensure adherence to the 1910.147 safety standards. NEITHER SAALMAN SAFETY SYSTEM NOR ANY OF IT'S DISTRIBUTORS WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPROPER USE OF THIS BOX.

(f)(3)(i)
When servicing and/or maintenance is performed by a crew, craft, department or other group, they shall utilize a procedure which affords the employees a level of protection equivalent to that provided by the implementation of a personal lockout or tagout device.
(f)(3)(ii)
Group lockout or tagout devices shall be used in accordance with the procedures required by paragraph (c)(4) of this section including, but not necessarily limited to, the following specific requirements:
(f)(3)(ii)(A)
Primary responsibility is vested in an authorized employee for a set number of employees working under the protection of a group lockout or tagout device (such as an operations lock);
(f)(3)(ii)(B)
Provision for the authorized employee to ascertain the exposure status of individual group members with regard to the lockout or tagout of the machine or equipment and
(f)(3)(ii)(C)
When more than one crew, craft, department, etc. is involved, assignment of overall job-associated lockout or tagout control responsibility to an authorized employee designated to coordinate affected work forces and ensure continuity of protection; and

Each authorized employee shall affix a personal lockout or tagout device to the group lockout device, group lockbox, or comparable mechanism when he or she begins work, and shall remove those devices when he or she stops working on the machine or equipment being serviced or maintained.

Instructions for the Original Hinge Box

Step 1: "Personal Danger Tag(s) & Lock(s)": are placed on the hazardous energy source(s) by the Authorized employee performing or locking out for the group.

Step 2: the same authorized employee then places the keys to the lock(s) from the hazardous energy source(s) in the "Group Lockout Tagout Box". He/she would then place their "Personal Danger Tag & Lock" on the center hole of the "Group Lockout/Tagout Box".

Step 3: All other authorize employee(s) performing work on the effected equipment would then attach their danger tags & lock to any hole on the group lockout/tagout box. Note: continuity of this system is maintained since the group lockbox contains the Key(s) of the hazardous energy source(s) that is locked out. No one can get to the keys in the box until the last lock comes off the box.

Step 4: After the work is completed at the end of the shift, the authorized employees would remove their "Personal Danger Tag & Locks" from the "Group Lockout Tagout Box" only after they have visually & verbally checked the area for safety.

Step 5: The authorize employee responsible for the group lockout will be the last one to remove his/her "Personal Danger Tag & Lock" from the center hole of the "Group Lockout Tagout Box".

Step 6: He/she will then remove the keys from the "Group Lockout Tagout Box" and go unlock the hazardous energy source(s) only after he/she have visually & verbally checked the area for safety.

 

 

 

Authorized employee responsible for the group lockout locks & tags out the hazardous energy source(s) with a Personal Danger tag. Key(s) from the hazardous energy Source(s) are placed in the group Lock Box.

KEYS FROM THE LOCKS
ATTACHED TO THE
HAZARDOUS ENERGY SOURCES, ARE PLACED INSIDE THE GROUP LOCKOUT/TAGOUT BOX BY THE AUTHORIZED EMPLOYEE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCKING OUT THE AFFECTED EQUIPMENT.
